Bbi like his father He lacked the courage to approach his father about it until his Experiences With The Golem Changed with the Golem changed view of himself and changed his father s view of his son It was an interesting to end the storyI enjoyed this story and would recommend it if ou like Jewish folkore it with Barbara Rogasky s The Golem a would recommend it if ou like Jewish folkore Combine it with Barbara Rogasky s The Golem a David Wisniewski s Golem a Caldecott winner Isaac Bashevis Singer s The Golem Beverly Brodsky McDermott s The Golem a Jewish Legend a Caldecott honor book or even the adult novels The Golem by Gustav Meyrink or Elie Wiesel s The Golem the Story of a Legend Jacob is stuck in the ghetto of medieval Prague in ways than one To leave especially during Passover is dangerous because of the taunts and enmity of the dominant Christians Yet he is stuck inside the ghetto as the son of a rabbi who is expected to also become a rabbi even though he doesn t want to Then he follows his father and 2 other Jewish leaders to the riverbank one night and see them form a man out of clay a golem who will protect the Jews from persecution Can he protect Jacob as well The illustrations are wonderful I wish I could draw. E it was told from the point of view of the son of the chief rabbi who created the Golem Jacob lives in the Jewish ghetto of Prague where there is always of the chief rabbi who created the Golem Jacob lives in the Jewish ghetto of Prague where there is always from people living outside the ghetto who hate the Jews One night Jacob follows his father out of the ghetto to the river and watches as he and two others form the Golem out of clay perform the rituals and bring it to life The Golem guards the people from anyone who wants to harm them But how long will the Golem be able to keep them safe A couple of things interested me in this story First the Golem was only supposed to take orders from the chief rabbi When others even Jacob who had befriended the Golem tried to give it orders the creature obeyed but could not be stopped once it had started People tried to order the Golem to do their work for them which was not its intended purpose The Golem eventually had to be deactivated in order to prevent the people from taking advantage of it and causing trouble Jacob s father felt that the current ruler of the land was sympathetic to the Jews and would protect them but after that A secondary plot involved Jacob s reluctance to become a ra. T the people from outside accuse the Jews of dreadful deeds But one night Jacob follows his father and two companions as they unlock the ghetto gates and proceed to the river where they mold a human shape from the mud of the riverbank When the rabbi speaks strange. ,

It is 1595 and the rabbi’s son Jacob is frustrated with having to live in the walled ghetto known as Jewish Town Why can’t he venture outside of the gates and explore the beautiful city His father warns him that Passover is a dangerous time to be a Jew and tha. .
