[New] Cursed Be the Child
Lso a ridiculous amount of introspection and genuinely deep thought "This Is A Horror Novel About A Possessed Little Girl "is a horror novel about a possessed little girl it s also a close intimate drama about a family that is crumbling under the weight of infidelity addiction and unrealized xpectations It s a meditation on belief what happens when the God you worship turns his back on you or you turn your back on your gods The characters are wonderfully complex The dialogue is almost too good for a horror novel When Warren and Vicki fight about his drinking and her affair well Le valeureux guerrier everyone who s been married for any length of time knows that you don t always fight fair It all rings uncomfortably true andveryone who s Snowflakes on the Sea ever said something cruel in anger will recognize themselves There s a crushing sense of doom of inevitability inverything that happens When MelissaLisette asks her little friend to reach for something inside of a drawer we know what s going to happen It s that fist and stomach clenching feeling of no no no aw c mon don t do that To me that defines horror whether in a book movie or Wrathful Chaos: Five Books of Satanic Philosophy even a documentary Horror is when you know thending is going to be bad and you have to see it anywayThe nding was the weakest part of the book After verything Mort Castle put me through I felt like I deserved a nice neat bow tied finish It almost felt like a set up for a seuel which is something that leaves me cold but I don t think that was the author s intention Also I don t want to give away too much but apparently a whole lot happened offscreen that allowed two characters who had never met to suddenly show up as a team hundreds of miles from where we had last seen ither of them in xactly the right place There s no xplanation given for how this happened It s one of my biggest pet peeves the fairy godmother type of writing when something that s needed magically appearsOverall though I liked Cursed Be The Child uite a lot minus the ick factor of the child sex stuff and the fact that I m now probably on an FBI watchlist somewhere for reading itThe Nerd s Rating FOUR HAPPY NEURONSIf you plan to tell

Far From A Light Reading Beach Novel It Becomes Almostfrom a light reading beach novel It becomes almost much at times and it was difficult to get through in spots In the nd however the novel was very satisfying and I was glad that I read it There are many chills and horrific moments in this highly recommended novelCarl Alves author of Blood Street The switching of POV was hard for me to follow at first but as the story went on i was able to keep up This story was spooky uncomfortable and poignant I loved the folklore that became a "big part of the plot and I felt like I got to know "part of the plot and I felt like I got to know of the charact It was a great read that i couldnt put down very time i tryed i would tell my self just one or two pages This one has set on my shelves for so many years I figured I owed it a read Turns out my subconsciousness must have been right I wasn t missing much This is a pretty well written book that addresses possession and child abuse among other things but in a strangely bland unengaging manner There were so many characters here and I didn t care about any of them and subseuently not really for the story ither The fun cover doesn t really have a thing to do with the plot This just seems like another one of those vil kids paperbacks with lurid covers and not much substance although this one really tries to offer something here that dominated the market for decades uick read but nothing really noteworthy or impressive A very DARK and DEVIANT readwould not pick this up if you have a weak stomachsome of the subject matter is difficult to read I m an xperienced horror reader and parts of this had me disturbed But I thought it was a really good read I wish it had gone into some of the mysticism and supernatural aspects of it though I feel like there could have been to it on that nd Clearly an Desire in Seven Voices early work not as polished as his collection Moon Over Water but stillngaging nough This was a tale of possession but instead of an xorcism it turns out that the gypsies have their own ways Neat twist on things but the gypsy background. A terrifying novel of passion and possession by the author of Strangers Five year old Melissa loves. Into this story bored me However the The Casa Mono Cookbook ending did not disappoint and was anntertaining novel overall Does contain perverse subject matter but "did not go into detail 3 stars for me Short Take You know the time "not go into detail 3 stars for me Short Take You know the time read that book that you really hated but you read it anyway because it was great It s like thatI was inspired to pick this up after reading Gary Braunbeck s foreward in To Each Their Darkness I should ve known Given Braunbeck s subject matter and the ringing ndorsement that he gave Cursed Be The Child I should ve guessed that this would be hard to read And yes it was it was harder than I thought it would be and I m still struggling with my feelings as I write thisCursed Be The Child opens with a horrific description of the rape and murder of Lisette a five year old girl killed in 1918 After the death of her mother she has been sent to live with her uncle and
Now Both Of Them Areboth of them are of Spanish influenza Lisette s death is hastened by the vicious treatment she suffers at the hands of her uncle and her final thoughts are that if she could just make him love her he wouldn t hurt her anyIn the present day seven year old Melissa has moved into the house where Lisette died along with her parents Vicki and Warren In true horror novel tradition Melissa becomes possessed by Lisette s spirit and terrible things begin to happen The supporting cast of characters includes Vicki s sister Carol Grace Carol Grace s husband the famed televangelist Evan Kyle Dean Selena who was raised as a Gypsy and is now a child therapist and her boyfriend renowned photographer David Greenfield Each of them is affected by the madness of LisetteMelissa in one way or another and all of them will play a part in battling the vicious spiritThis is a book that could have and probably should have been cheesy and awful It s got the right number of horror novel boxes ticked off Creepy possessed kid Check Mystical beautiful Gypsy Check Alcoholic father Check Cold spots in the house Check Televangelist who needs luxury cars and houses to serve God Check And so onBut somehow it s better than its cliches I ll be honest that first scene was brutal I nearly uit reading after that one There are other sexual scenes involving children in this book and it was EXTREMELY difficult to stomach I hated those chapters I uestioned why I was continuing to read a book that had such horrible awful content I couldn t possibly njoy something so terribleBut then the flipside the rest of the book is damn amazing Sure there are a lot of horror cliches and objectionable content But there s Her family's new home specially the big basement and her new friend Lisette Melissa's parents tell. .
