A Problem We Associateproblem we associate recent one that has been around since the rise of the nation state And also interesting with the different layers of government and police Have to love all that internal politicsAnd the story moves uickly against that background Picked this up at Powell s in Portland OR last year and finally getting around to reading it Set in 1963 Picardie France when a truck driver drops off a group of illegals in the night and discovers one has been killed n route This is the second Inspector Lucas Rocco caseIt s probably a very high 4 stars and also of a thriller I think than only a police procedural It became uite intense at the New Plant Parent: Learn the Ways of Plant Parenthood end It s set in an interesting part of France and Injoyed the role of the canal system as the plot played out There s a blurb on the book cover saying you have to love the main policeman Lucas Rocco as he s France s answer to Jack Reacher Which in height and in toughness with criminals and a light touch with people not able to defend themselves may in fact add up to a Reacher type guy Which is not a bad thing at all. Ust trace his fellow travellers but trawling for illegal arrivals is a sensitive iss. This was probably my favourite so far of the Inspector Lucas Rocco series but I do like all of them great of period local atmosphere French mindset *EXCELLENT POLICE PROCEDURAL I AM RE *police procedural am re this series and loving it Great book I am new to this author and took a chance because it was set in France and wasn t set in present timeI have since read two books and a short storyIt is the kind of book that is a pleasure to read and you don t want to put downThe illegal immigrant theme resonates with todayLoved it A fast paced page turner set in Amiens 1963 when Inspector Rocco investigates the death of a man smuggled into the country from Algeria I read this book or less in one sitting as I couldn t put it down Inspector Rocco is a vigorous and inimitable law Dreaming Me: An African-American Woman's Buddhist Journey enforcer who in this book becomes influenced by an attractive woman on the run from her brutal gangster husband The plot has many layers covering the themes of human trafficking gun running and gang violence all highly relevant to today The second book in the series it is completely different from the first A highly recommended read Don t usually read a book with suchnergy akin to my long forgotten teenage years but here is a real page turner for ven a 50 year old like me The second book in Just realised I forgot to add a review for this novel Another fun outing for Inspector Lucas Rocco with his natty suits and English shoes a dress sense he shares with my other new favourite detective Jan Fabel playful fruit bats in the attic and an attentive neighbour who proves handily resourceful The crime plot certainly has contemporary resonance though the setting is 1963 with illegal immigrants being traffi.
